Running Mission Peak in the Rain.

It's great to be out running the trails again. I was happy it was raining, because I got to test out my new Arcteryx gortex rain jacket. I have 2 Patagonia light weight rain jackets. I decided to get something more bomber. Being stuck in a storm on the PCT and get soaked to the bone was no fun. So I thought it was about time I get something new. It worked great, as we all know gortex doesn't breath that well. I felt fine I wasn't overheated at all. I love this Jacket.
Day #3 of the Master cleanse and I'm feeling good.
Oh, I guess I haven't mentioned the latest news. I started working at REI in Fremont. While out on the PCT I knew I needed to change. Driving to work everyday, wasting gas and paying 4 bucks to go to work just didn't make sence . I'm excided that I can run to work 2 days a week on my short run days 10 miles round trip. I will be working in outerwear/footwear. This week is just training. Next week I start training in my department. I still am seasonal at Whole Foods. I plan on woring there 3 days a month.

"Change, disruption or obstacles could be the order of the day! There is a reason for each of these occurrences but in general it can be said that the way in which you are doing things, or viewing things, has to change. Very often the universe takes a hand and helps you by clearing away the debris of the old, but be assured that what is right, essential or just plain needed, will remain in place. In all cases be calm in the face of these unexpected events and just know that everything is going to be all right. © Stephen Haynes"

Very cool that you are out and running. Mission Peak is always nice in the rain! Also, cool about REI. Does this mean that they might get a better selection of trail running shoes soon ;-).

Hey Steve-
With me in that department. I will push for more trail shoes and injinji socks in that store too. They sell them at most all the other REI's.
I think it will be fun there. I will see a lot of the FUR's shopping there.
You will have to stop in and say hi to me.

Catra -
I've been following your PCT and Dirt Diva blogs for a while now and am inspired/entranced/blah blah blah... you interest me to no end. After a bud completed the AT a couple years ago, I've been on a mission to get bigger and better hikes under my belt (I'm just a short timer for now) - my first goal is the Superior Hiking Trail in MN, where I live. It's only 200+ miles, but it's a start (check out their site - it's a beautiful trail). Thanks for more inspiration to get to it.

The real reason I decided to comment now, instead of earlier, is that I just started at REI too! In Bloomington MN. Can't wait to start myself, and also to read your blog to see how your experience goes.

Best of luck, happy trails.

Hi AK-
Thanks for the email! The Superior Trail looks awesome. You will have fun I'm sure. I start small my first long trail was 165 miles but it was in 72 hours the Tahoe rim trail. That same Summer 2001 I spent 8 days out on the John Muir trail with a friend. Every year since I have done the JMT 212 miles even hing the PCT I was on the JMT.
I plan on hiking the AT in 2010.
I will be back on the PCT next year gotta do the whole thing ;)
I start training this week. Love it. I've been going shopping there for years so know a lot of the staff.
I train in my department next week. They have so mant perks.
I'm doing a snowshoe trip Nov. 11,12,13 with a couple other staff members. The reps. for the snowshoe company is putting it on in Tahoe.
In January I'm doing a winter backpacking trip with REI in Tahoe at Echo Lakes it's on the PCT. I'm so excited the engery and vibe is great in my store.
When do you start??
