HURT 100 #9
as most of you know I made it 80 miles. I left for my last loop with Carl pacing. I started the steep climb up Hogs back but could know longer bend my right leg. My IT band locked up. I knew since I couldn't walk there was no way I could run.
David Goggins and me at the prerace briefing.
I sat down on a rock and had a melt down. I was feeling super sorry for myself. Thinking how could this happen to me I was doing great. When I made the long climb out of Jackass ginger aid station I started having problems. I thought it would go away but it only got worse.
I made the right choice, I think. The only reason I left for the 5th loop is because I felt like I was letting Carl down, by not giving him a chance to see the course and pace me. He helped me make the right choice.
I am happy that they give credit for completing the 100k. This year they made it harder if you wanted 100k credit you had to go 67 miles.
I will be back next year for the 10th time. And I will finish the 100 miler...

I saw a picture earlier and thought I saw David.
Carta, you are such a phenomenal runner. No one would think you were a failure any way you slice it.
I was thinking of you the last couple of days and sending positive vibes! :)
Dont beat yourself up, you and Carl made the right decision, stay strong. Get healthy and get back to running.

I'm so sorry for your disappointment. Chin up, you WILL do it next year and you'll learn something from this race that you'll be able to take and use next year. Enjoy your break and don't let it get you down.
Great job Catra. You are one tough cookie. Heal up and get back out there.
Looking GREAT Catra!!!!! Very happy to see that You're having a great time despite your little injury! :)
Hanging out in Germany right now for my job...
Hope you have a wonderful week!!!
Namaste,
Tom
It really is very beautiful. And congrats on the 100k credit. I bet you made the right decision.
Hi Catra,
It's hard when we don't reach our goals, but sometimes our bodies won't physically cooperate with the things we want to do. You have incredible mental strength and the heart of a warrior! A great accomplishment on your run and way to go!
Sara
Catra, sorry to hear you had to stop short. But I'm sure you did the right thing. Sometimes you have to stop, to run another day!!

I hate that locked knee feeling! I've had to walk down hills backwards during a marathon because of that.
Hope it heals soon.
Beautiful tat on a beautiful soul
Hey Catra, nice to know you're human (and have a fussy IT band! mine is complaining these days as well). The world is funny in how it teaches us its lessons, and 80 miles is nothing to scoff at. Stay strong!
catra!! so sorry you had that meltdown! you did the best you could, and you made it 80 freaking miles. you gave it your best and i know you'll go back next year and do the entire 100 miles. you still rocked it honey. take care of that knee and be good to yourself. have a massage, some tea, and lots of love from carl and you'll heal right up.

great stuff...dirt diva...you are inspiring me to keep moving forward...and the journey never ends....we are constantly going from better to best... from now to the future with a clearer picture of what we can be...
congrats on the 100 k credit..I recently fell short of a 50k credit (huge snow..etc but not excuses) I know I will succeed and I see great things for you...
keep reaching!!
HURT will always be there waiting for you. The Volcano Goddess will be patient and see you in 2010. :-)
Run on Catra.
I heard someone say once, sometimes doing the right thing doesn't always make you feel good... You have greater strength and wisdom than before the race because of it Catra!
Way to push it to the limit Catra! Isn't it awesome, when you push the body to the absolute edge, when it doesn't go any farther? I hope you had a fun time getting hurt at the HURT (haha, funny joke). I hope to see you at Plain this September.
Whats up girl!!
It was fun meeting you this weekend. I will let you know when I come down to the Bay area for the Diablo 50 and hopefully we can hook up and get a run in.
Heal up that IT and keep it real. Take care.
By the way I checked out Steph's blog.... Wow!!! Thanks for giving me another source of inspiration! :)
Namaste,
Tom
I'm reminded of a couple things:
Did we ever learn anything valuable by getting exactly what we wanted?
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Things like that....
From a friend of Dr. Bob...

Congrats on making the 80 and on being kind enough to yourself to not push over the edge. YOU are awesome!
Hey Diva:
Congrats on making 80. I know how you feel - last year at RR100 when I dropped at 80 after not being able to bend my leg or walk. And you were there (but you finished). I just felt so low. But, take it from me, the next finish really helps decrease the DNF pain. Plus at least you made the starting line at HURT - I withdrew thanks to my injuries. See you on the trails!
Hey girl!
Don't get down on yourself! You are a great athlete and a super person! We all get injured. Take the time to heal. More TLC from Carl is appropriate *wink* *wink*
Hope to see you at the box!
Sounds like the right move and kudus to Carl for making you take it!
