SAN DIEGO 100 MILE TRAIL RACE. FINISH TIME 28:51

Andy Kumeda and Catra Corbett

I am happy to report the race went pretty well until mile 85 when I felt a blister coming on, on the ball of my left foot. I also got one on my left second toe.

The race was unseasonably cold. It was overcast, foggy, windy and cold on Saturday. It was very windy at night and there was even rain reported on the peak that we climbed at mile 80.
Andy and I ran the whole race together. I was going for my 5 year finish and Andy his 6th.
We were both very cold at night so hardly talked just moved forward and hoped the weather would get better.
Catra Corbett and Andy Kumeda heading into the night!

On Sunday morning the fog lifted and it got sunny are bodies warmed up and we were happy.
The last 5 miles I stopped to pop a blister and the pain went shooting up my left foot. I laid there and cried for a few minutes thinking I can't walk it hurts. I took 2 advils and got up.
Andy gave me a hug and said you will be fine.
Off we went within a few minutes I was fine. I pushed hard up those hills and shuffled down hill, and on the flats. I was happy we were getting closer.

I knew once we were at the spring we had 3 miles to go. At one point Andy said we could break 29 hours. I thought no way. I am horrible at math during a hundred but he knows how to pace us well. So I thought I want under 29 hours.

Catra corbett and Andy Kumeda at the finish!!

So we moved as fast as we could we even past 5 runners the last few miles.
My feet hurt but my heart was happy. I was happy how lucky I was in my life to be given such a gift, to run 100 mile races even back to back. I was also so thankful that I have someone who I am so in love to do this with. It really isn't about the time it is about the love Andy and I share, it's about us and how we are an amazing team together. When one is down the other is up and positive. When one is crying the other is telling stories to make the other one laugh.
Sure Andy is faster than me, but he said he would rather run with me than run a fast time. He enjoys running races with me, well most of the time ;-)
Andy Kumeda that's why I love you. You're the best.

Glad to hear you made it ok. I was worried when you didn't post your finish because of the previous Ohlone blister issues you talked about. Let yourself heal up for a while, ok? I think Andy is good for you, and I'm glad you are back together.

I was thinking about the teeth problems you mentioned a few weeks back, and when I read this post, I thought I'd send it along.

The author is a paleo guy, which I know Crossfit endorses too. He said his teeth and gums are much improved since going Paleo, and I have had similar experiences. Hope this helps!

Congratulations! That's a pretty good time. I hate to say it, but I actually prefer running in cold weather. Hey, would you mind emailing me some time about your socks? THey are the best looking ones I've seen. Most of the ones I've seen look like something my granny would wear. Actually, they probably were.

Yes, you are a true inspiration. Thank you for writing and sharing from the heart.

And thank you for your awesome quote selections.

The last few have been perfect.
