We are all students and teachers. I often ask myself, “What did I come here to learn, and what did I come to teach?” I learned a lot over the weekend, I am not super human, but only human. I bleed red just like everybody else. I may get knocked down but I will never be knocked out!!!I came to teach everyone to love life and have fun, even if there is suffering in the process.

I did not finish Western states 100 made it to mile 85 and needed an IV which automatically disqualifies me from the race.I never felt right from the beginning. I kept thinking I will feel better and My energy would get better. I felt like passing out and could barley move. Thanks for all your positive vibes.Every 100 mile race can't be perfect. if I knew the outcome of each race, and knew I would finish every time. I doubt I would love this distance so much. I do it to challenge myself ,and sometimes the challenge is to tell yourself to be smart ,and save the fight for another day.
I will write a story soon. I love you all!!!
Thanks to my boyfriend Andy Kumeda and crew chief "Firecracker" Kathy D'Onofrio for all there support and hard work to get me to mile 85.

85miles ain't too shabby! ;)

You know there'll be a next time and the point is you toe'd the start line gave it your best shot and learned something from it.

My 'motto' is "I ain't Superman and I can't fly" taken from a Bryan Adams song of all places similar to your 'wisdom' today. ON the surface some thing it is an arrogance to think that I am 'superman' in teh first place but I learned it when I let myself down (personally rather than athletically) it's as much a reminder to me of my weaknesses and failings and that it is OK to human.

Thanks for sharing Catra even in yor defeats, that shows real humility. You have a kick a$$ attitude toward life and your goals, and that counts for more than 15 miles!

Good work Catra. Learn from this and come back more badass than ever.

Catra, you are still truly a badass in my book. Just think that less than 1% of all Americans, maybe even people in the world, do what you do. 85 miles is freaking amazing given the conditions and terrain. Don't beat yourself up over this. I agree with Neal, take this for what it is and come back and dominate next year!!!!

Don't beat yourself up Catra. Many people would have to hook themselves up to an IV after walking 85 YARDS, let alone running 85 miles!

I finished my first Ironman on Sunday.

During the run, I found myself in some very dark places struggling just to take that next step. YOU were one of the reasons I kept going.

I thought about your journey and how we have a very similar past. I thought "Catra does this kind of crap every weekend so move your fat ass and quit bitchin'".

I finished in 16:45 and can't wait for the next one.

Thank you for the help.

All the best,

Ron

I'm a first time reader and have to say I love your attitude. I have no doubt you will conquer the course next time out.

Do you think running the SD 100 just 2 weeks earlier had anything to do with your issues?

I know I could never run two 100's that close together.

Best of luck recovering.

All we can do is the best we can do at the moment. You'er awesome Cat. Our goal is to do the4 best that we can do & leave nothing onthe table or in reserve. In this way, you HAVE achieved your goal.

Next time you will do the same - the best you can do but next time your best will be a finish.

You rock!

Sorry you didn't make it Catra. You must have been sick for it to get to you. I don't know anyone as tough and single minded as you are, even when you are not feeling great.

Down but not out! Cool.
